Peugeot 307cc

Arguably Peugeot is the most innovative European maker of appealing convertible cars and the latest 307cc is no exception to the claim. It meets the needs of those who required a true 4 sweater cabriolet and also those who seek a genuine coupe. It can perform as the second car of a two-car couple or single conveyance of a busy man or woman.

That the 307cc has Gallic flair is indisputable. It has that indefinable chicanes associated with many things that are exclusively French, from clothes to perfume to cuisine. It has a sleek profile that sweeps from the low front end through the racked windscreen pillars across the retractable steel roof to a curved rear end.

The steel roof retracts at the press of a button located between the front seats and takes less than 25 seconds and the metamorphosis from coupe to cabriolet can be achieved while still driving at speed up to 10km/hr.

The steel roof retracts into the boot and the whole exercise is entirely automatic. On first impressions the interior design of the 307cc rates very highly on the, wow, factor scale with its dramatic styling and excellent ergonomic layout. The leather-trimmed steering wheel is adjustable for reach and rake and has a nice feel thanks to the scalped padded rim.

The cars image as a sports car is enhanced by the low driving position in the nicely shaped seats that also give very good lateral support. The instrument panel has four chrome-ringed dials set on a white background.

The driving power is transmitted to the front wheels through an automatic gear box with Tiptronic manual changing facility. This latest engine from Peugeot is very fuel efficient with a consumption of only 8.9 liters per kilometers for the combined cycle according to EEC regulations.

Driving the Peugeot 307cc

Ones first impression when entering the car is extremely positive and as one settles into the drivers from fitting seat and adjusts the steering wheel that impression is enhanced even further. The low seating position still allows excellent forward visibility through the very large windscreen. Test car was fitted with auto /tiptronic transmission system and this proved an absolute delight to use.

The 2-litre engine provided lots of power and torque to make a driving out into countryside a memorable occasion. Overall reaction to the 307cc is that it continues the excellent tradition of Peugeot's success with the model and that this model will be on most people’s short list when shopping convertible.
